PHILOSOPHY AND GOALS

Westminster Child Development Center is committed to a program design that strives for total development of the whole child. The Center endeavors to achieve this by providing positive learning experiences in a warm and caring environment that recognizes, allows for and celebrates that each child is a unique creation of a loving God.

To accomplish its goals, WCDC strives to:

  1. Maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.
  2. Provide a variety of materials and activities that allow each child to explore creative abilities.
  3. Provide an environment conducive to learning by having adequate equipment, materials, etc. suitable to the needs and interests of the children.
  4. Provide varied opportunities for physical exercise and development.
  5. Provide for age-appropriate cognitive development.
  6. Provide for language development by exposing children to good literature, poetry and other means for increasing vocabulary and understanding of language.
  7. Build social skills through cooperative work and play, and through learning respect for others and their property.
  8. Build self-esteem and individual strengths by encouraging children, by respecting differences, and by helping children develop independence and self-control.
  9. Provide a balance of quiet and active experiences.
  10. Provide opportunities for children to listen to and learn to appreciate music and to learn songs, etc.
  11. Arrange field trips that are age-appropriate and that build on school experiences and introduce children to new horizons.
